A Savage Place, by Frank G. Slaughter
A light read with a happy ending. A young surgeon returns to the place he began, much more successful than when he left. He helps the town and the people he knew growing up and keeps his principals along the way.

This is a very good but unsettling book written around the time of WW II. About people and the lengths they’ll go to.
