Paris
Paris is magical. The metro is the best I have encountered.
Cute and fun to ride.
PARIS, FRANCE
PLACES TO STAY:
I recommend the Hotel du Parc (see link below). It is reasonably-priced. The staff is courteous and the rooms are big. I especially liked the floor-to-ceiling windows I could open. I also liked the hotel’s proximity to a little park, the Gare du Montparnasse, three metro stops, a grocery store and an outdoor market.
THINGS TO DO:
Some of these are out of the way, but still accessible, organized by metro stop.
BUTTES CHAUMONT
Buttes Chaumont - a beautiful out of the way park with a lake in the middle and a stone tower. Good for a picnic or just getting away.
CHATEAU DE VINCENNES
Bois de Vincennes Zoological Park - a castle, ornamental lakes and a fantastic zoo.
DENFERT-ROCHEREAU
Catacombs - The catacombs are underground. Walk along pathways lined with walls of very artistically arranged bones. The bones are from cemeteries that were cleared out in the 1700’s to improve sanitary conditions. Interspersed are smiling skulls. It’s not as creepy as it sounds.
GUIDE BOOKS:
The first book listed isn’t a guidebook, but it is fascinating.
