REGISTRY OF SACRED PLACES
A “sacred place” can be a building, plot of land or environmental feature. What makes it sacred is that a person, group or community cares enough about it to want to protect it. I heard of the concept through participating in Anne Pearson’s sacred places workshops in Carroll County, Maryland and Rockbridge County, Virginia. There was talk of starting a registry of sacred places, where people could register the places they cared about and commit to actions to preserve those places. So, here’s my registry. If you have a place you’d like included on this list, please send an email to the email address listed at the bottom of this page.
Congressional Cemetery, Washington, DC
Congressional Cemetery lost its funding a number of years ago and became a wild place. It’s a beautiful place, where several notable people are buried, such as John Plilip Sousa and Mathew Brady.(civil war photographer).
