The Second Son, by Charles Sailor

I believe this is the only book he has written and it is fantastic.  I’m not sure you would classify it as science fiction, but it has that appeal. It’s the story of an average guy who falls from a building and doesn’t die, but instead discovers he has the power to heal masses of people. He uses his power to avert disaster and is vilified for his efforts. Is he the second son of God?

Lucifer’s Hammer, by Larry Niven

Another story about surviving disaster:  this time, a meteor hitting the Earth.  It tells of the aftermath, where people go, how they survive and how they begin rebuilding their world.

Worlds of Tomorrow, The Amazing Universe of Science Fiction Art, by Forrest J. Ackerman and Brad Linaweaver

This is a beautiful “coffee table book” that contains the artwork that appeared on covers of the early pulp fiction magazines and the authors’ commentary on the history of science fiction art.

Alas Babylon, by Pat Frank

This is a fictional account of a small town’s survival after a nuclear holocaust.  It was first published in 1959. It is set in a small town in Florida and tells how people reacted to the loss of electricity, the failure of supply systems and the loss of the value of the almighty dollar.  It tells how they survived. It is fantastic.
